"Break the Cycle" - and go the next mile
Beginning on Saturday, June 8th, Pastor Tom Hancock of Harrison United Methodist Church near Chattanooga along with Brian Arnold, will ride their bikes from Chattanooga TN to Lake Junaluska NC. The goal is to raise $10,000 and save 1000 lives from malaria.

While these events have passed, they do give you an idea of what happened during this week focused on eliminating malaria. Imagine No Malaria
District Rally
April 28th @ 3 pm
Pearson Springs Park - Maryville
People from all across the district will gather for this time of sharing, fellowship, worship and praise as we all work together to help take the Imagine No Malaria campaign, "The Next Mile."
World Malaria Day
April 25th
The World Health Organization created this day of observance in 2007. According to the WHO website, this is an "occasion to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment for malaria prevention and control." For more information click here.
Broadway UMC - Walk/Run/Bike for INM
April 28th
To get everyone excited about Imagine No Malaria, Broadway UMC is going all out on Sunday, April 28th. The whole day is filled with events all leading up to the District Rally at 3:00 pm at Pearson Springs Park.
8:30AM - Rejuvenation Station
9:30AM - Meet and Greet Dr. Robert Taylor
(gives a presentation about Malaria and the research that he is involved with.)
10:35AM - Morning Worship
12:00PM - Luncheon
1:00PM Start of Walk/Run/Bike - A - Thon from church to Pearson Springs Park
1:00 - 3:00PM - Intergenerational Games and Activities at Pearson Springs Park including Dunking Booth to dunk your favorite Pastor, District Superintendent and even the Maryville City Mayor!
The Journey Begins
Charles Maynard will start this journey of awareness by preaching at Ironsburg United Methodist Church in Monroe County. He will be preaching the 9:30 services the morning of April 21st then he will begin the 100 mile trip to the other end of the Maryville District. The first leg of the journey will take him first to Tellico Plains UMC where he is expecting to arrive around 3:00 pm then he will end the day at Eleazar United Methodist Church at 5:30 in the evening.
Wednesday Communion
April 24th (District Wide)
On the eve of World Malaria Day churches throughout the district will be encouraged to hold a special Communion service to remember those who suffer from malaria and those to whom we can offer hope. The District has pledged to collectively raise $110,000 for the Imagine No Malaria Campaign.

"The Halfway Point"
April 24th (beginning at 3:45)
Both Charles and Randy will cross paths in Maryville in the middle of the week. We want YOU to help mark the journey's halfway point by coming to 1st UMC Maryville to meet both men, swap stories, have some refreshments and have communion.
For those wanting to walk with Charles the last mile or so of the day, be at the church at 3:45.
The "meet and greet" starts at 4:30.
Communion services begin at 5:30 pm.
